RABIES IN A FOX 🦊
For the first time in eastern Ontario, a red fox has been reported with rabies.
According to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, the animal was found in the Chute-à-Blondeau area, east of Hawkesbury.
The fox was subsequently euthanized.
People who had contact with the animal were treated.
“It was a bat strain of rabies,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, adding that there had been no previous cases of rabies in foxes in the region.
