“Five outstanding virtuoso musicians. Schmaltz & Pepper are a shining example of musical brilliance…breathtaking artistry…Inventive, adventurous, experimental…an unbelievable feat of creativity.”
– Ludwig Van
New on the Canadian chamber music scene and taking it by storm, Schmaltz & Pepper present an evening of “classy klezmer” – original compositions inspired by klezmer, Yiddish Swing, jazz, and classical music. Since their debut concert in 2024, this groundbreaking ensemble, founded by Toronto Symphony Orchestra principal clarinetist Eric Abramovitz and renowned violinist and Payadora Tango creative Rebekah Wolkstein, have already sold out shows across the country, including performances at Ashkenaz, Toronto Summer Music Festival, and ‘Put a Yid on it’ Festival in Winnipeg.
Made up of prominent and much-celebrated Canadian chamber musicians, including Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Drew Jurecka, Juno-nominated bassist Michael Herring, and Juno-winning pianist Jeremy Ledbetter, this super group is redefining the boundaries of Yiddish music, putting virtuosity and innovation on full display. This Chamberfest debut is sure to be an exhilarating ride.
