Ottawa to Avoid Major Snowstorm
A strong winter storm hitting northern Ontario and the Great Lakes will mostly bypass Ottawa, bringing only brief flurries to the capital.
CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders says lake-effect snow is already creating hazardous travel south of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. Ottawa will be slightly above freezing Thursday, with occasional flurries from a lingering front.
Strong westerly winds will persist through Friday. Light snowfall of only a few centimetres is possible Friday and Saturday. Areas in the core of the storm could see up to 30 cm.
Colder air will settle over Ottawa this weekend, with another system bringing a mix of snow and rain on Sunday.
