Rob Reiner’s son charged with the murder of his parents in Hollywood

A tragic crime has shaken Hollywood in Los Angeles. Nick Reiner, 32, the younger son of renowned director and actor Rob Reiner, has been charged with the murder of his parents — Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Police say the couple was fatally stabbed inside their home.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that Nick Reiner has been arrested and formally charged with murder. He is being held in custody on $4 million bail. The investigation is being handled by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call shortly after 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman inside the residence. Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the circumstances of the crime or the suspect’s motive.

Nick Reiner had previously spoken publicly about his long struggle with addiction and periods of homelessness. His complicated relationship with his father inspired the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie (2016), directed by Rob Reiner and co-written by Nick.

Rob Reiner was one of Hollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers, known for iconic films such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men. Before his directing career, he rose to fame as Meathead on the television series All in the Family, earning two Emmy Awards.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the deaths “a devastating loss for the city,” highlighting Reiner’s significant contributions to American culture and public life. Killings are considered rare in the Brentwood neighborhood where the family lived.
